Luiz Augusto de Oliveira Candiota
Founding partner and chairman of Lacan Real Assets
Luiz founded Lacan in 2000 and refounded the company in 2005, after a two-year period as Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy at the Central Bank of Brazil and a member of the Monetary Policy Committee (COPOM) and the National Monetary Council.
He is currently the Chaiman of the company and participates in all relevant decisions as a key person of all our funds and a member of the company’s Management Committee. Luiz is also member of the sustainability committee and deliberative council member of IBÁ.
Before Lacan, he held a variety of positions in different companies and was Executive Director at Citibank and CFO of Grupo Vicunha, a major Brazilian industrial group.
Luiz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC Rio) and a Post-graduate degree in Financial Management from Harvard Business School. He also serves as a member of the Ethics Council of the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association (Anbima).
Guilherme Ferreira de Oliveira
Managing partner of Lacan Real Assets
Guilherme joined Lacan in 2008 and is currently in charge of setting up and overseeing all investment activities and funds.
He also serves as a member of the company’s Management Committee. Within Lacan, he has also accumulated successful corporate finance experiences on M&A and private equity deals and project finance in different areas of the business. Guilherme is also member of the sustainability committee of IBÁ.
Before joining Lacan, Guilherme was a consultant at Falconi Consultores de Resultados, one of the leading Consulting firms in Brazil, and Project manager at the Business Management Institute (BMI), later incorporated by TOTVS.
Guilherme holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Escola de Engenharia Mauá and an MBA degree from FW Olin Graduate School of Business (Babson College), USA.
José Maria de Arruda Mendes Filho
Partner and Head of Forestry at Lacan Real Assets
José Maria became head of Forestry at Lacan in 2010 and actively took part in the research and studies to set up Lacan’s first forestry fund in 2012. As head of forestry and member of the Management Committee, he leads an experienced team of foresters in different states of Brazil and oversees a planted land of over 80,000 hectares.
With over 40 years of experience with all aspects of forest planting, José Maria was Forestry Director and Manager at Votorantim Celulose e Papel (now part of Suzano) between 1988 and 2004. He also worked as a Manager at Companhia Cimento Portland Itaú, also a Grupo Votorantim company, with the forest research team of the Institute of Forest Research and Studies (IPEF) and Grupo Belgo Mineira.
Throughout his career, he played an important role in promoting silviculture, having been IPEF, member of the Board of the Association of Forest Companies of Rio Grande do Sul (AGEFLOR) and volunteer professor at the agronomy and forest engineering school of the University of São Paulo (ESALQ-USP). He also served in the board of the AGRISUS Foundation - Sustainable Agriculture and Luiz de Queiroz Foundation for Agrarian Studies (ESALQ-USP).
José Maria holds a Bachelor’s and Post-graduate degree in Forest Engineering from Luiz de Queiroz Superior Agronomy School – University of São Paulo (USP).
Alexandre dos Santos Bomfim
Partner at Lacan Real Assets
Alexandre joined the company in 2009 and he is responsible for controlling and auditing all
invested companies. Before Lacan, he previously worked as a back office coordinator for Ativa and Renascença, two major Brazilian brokerage firms.
Alexandre holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Universidade Paulista and an MBA degree in Controllership and Auditing from Fundação Getúlio Vargas São Paulo (FGV-SP).
Guilherme Niglio
Partner and Investment Manager at Lacan Real Assets
Guilherme joined Lacan in 2013 and is the member of the investment team in charge of financial modelling. He is also instrumental in the monitoring of all the fund operations from an investment standpoint and analyzing new investment opportunities. Also at Lacan, he has participated in successful project finance and private equity deals.
Guilherme holds a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering from the Polytechnic School of
the University of São Paulo (POLI-USP).
Guilherme Monteiro
Partner and Head of Sales and IR at Lacan Real Assets
Head of Sales and Investor Relations at Lacan, Guilherme has been working in the company since 2009 and has actively participated in the fundraising effort for all funds in the house. He has also worked in the commercial department of Pátria Investimentos, a major Brazilian private equity firm.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Insper, having started his
undergraduate studies at the Rotterdam School of Management.
Ana Carolina Itzaina

Ana Carolina ingressou na Lacan em junho de 2023 e atualmente é nossa Diretora de Sustentabilidade. No início de sua carreira, ela trabalhou como Consultora de Negócios para a filial de São Paulo da FDG (fundada pelo Prof. Falconi e outros). Por 10 anos participou ativamente da entrega de projetos de consultoria para grandes empresas no Brasil em temas como planejamento estratégico, orçamento base zero, implementação de melhoria contínua (PDCA) e certificação ISO 9000. Seu grupo de consultoria foi adquirido pela Totvs, uma das principais empresas de TI do Brasil, e Carol se tornou Gerente de Vendas de Consultoria e liderou o processo de crescimento acelerado do negócio. Nos 10 anos seguintes, ela trabalhou como gerente de contas globais e principais contas na Lexmark.
Quando se tornou mãe, como empreendedora, abriu com sucesso uma empresa que importa e distribui produtos para bebês no Brasil. Tendo passado os últimos dois anos trabalhando como Chief Revenue Officer da Editora Latin Trade e lançando uma nova série de eventos em NY chamada One Day for the Amazon, Carol decidiu se juntar à Lacan e assumir o desafio de liderar a divisão de Sustentabilidade da empresa.
É graduada em Engenharia pelo Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia e possui MBA Executivo pela Business School São Paulo. Ela também fez uma pós-graduação em Gestão Global pela Rotman School of Management da Universidade de Toronto. Carol possui tripla cidadania, da Alemanha, Estados Unidos e Uruguai e representou os uruguaios no salto ornamental nos Jogos Olímpicos do Centenário em Atlanta 1996.
